Webcast: Use Games to Develop Your Character
Wednesday, November 7, at 10 AM PDT (Your Time Zone)
Who is your character, really? If they’re being honest, what do they truly want? What are they willing to do to achieve that goal? In this improv-based workshop, writers will play a set of quick-thinking and movement games to explore character motivation, backstory, and personality. Lace up your tennis shoes and make sure to sharpen your pencil, too. Writers will come away with fresh character insight and a pile of scene ideas to add to their developing novels.
Naomi Kinsman is the author of Spilled Ink, A Writer’s Notebook, and the From Sadie’s Sketchbook series. She is the founder and executive director of Society of Young Inklings, an organization that empowers young writers.
Can’t make it to an in-person write-in? Join us at a virtual one, streamed live from NaNoWriMo HQ. After all, writing is that much easier in the company of writers from around the world!
- We write together!
- We challenge each other to word sprints.
- We offer suggested prompts to help you find inspiration.
Every year, we partner with bookish YouTube vloggers to provide you with short, fun, weekly noveling tips. This year, we’re working with our YouTube Guides to bring you an expanded Virtual Write-In schedule as well!
Our 2018 YouTube Guides are Ochuole Ode of OhSheReads, Gabe (Ava Jae) of bookishpixie, Rachael Stephen, Kristina Horner, and the WordNerds team. Check out their channels or subscribe to our YouTube channel to get a notification when new YouTube Guide videos go up!
NaNo Word Sprints
What’s a word sprint? It’s a timed writing exercise to write as quickly as you can for a set amount of time. You can take on a suggested prompt or dare, too!
Why take part in a word sprint? To rev up your writing momentum, and get you sprinting past your inner editor.
Every week of November, a published author will take over our official Twitter account, @NaNoWriMo, to answer your questions and coach you through drafting your novel.
All tweets that come from our NaNo Coaches will be signed with the hashtag #NaNoCoach. If you want to make sure your question or thoughts make their way to your coach’s clipboard, please include #NaNoCoach in your tweet, too!
